The works on concreting of foundation slab on Kursk NPP-2 first power unit are completed

The specialists have completed concreting of foundation slab on Kursk NPP-2 power unit No.1 (general designer and general contractor — ASE, Rosatom State Corporation Engineering Division). Totally, more than 16 thousand cubic meters of self-compacting concrete mix was placed. Implementation of self-compacting concretes allows to reduce the time period for performance of works along with improvement of the quality. The works were performed around the clock.

The Project envisages the most advanced process solutions providing both optimum parameters of time periods, cost and quality of the performed construction and erection works, and further reliable and safe operation of the nuclear power plant. Development and implementation of a project management system based on the Multi-D technology is an additional competitive advantage of our project.”

Completion of concreting of foundation slab gives a start for erection of containment walls as well as inner and protective containment of the reactor building.

Kursk NPP-2 is a replacing plant consisting of 2 units with a capacity of 1255 MW each. The plant is constructed under VVER-TOI project. VVER-TOI is an evolutionary design based on technical solutions of NPP project with VVER-1200 nuclear reactor. At the same time the capacity of the unit was increased from 1200 to 1255 MW. A number of additional NPP safety measures were implemented in VVER-TOI project. The unit is designed for an earthquake of force up to 9 points. Protection from falling of a 20-ton fighter is also envisaged for VVER-TOI, and falling of a 400-ton plane of Boeing 747 is considered as a beyond design basis influence. Power units constructed under VVER-TOI project in case of hypothetical severe accidents, such as primary circuit break or loss of all AC power sources, including own diesel power plants, will be able to remain safe for the environment for an indefinite time. In case of simultaneous break of the primary circuit and loss of power, the power units may continue working in autonomous mode up to 72 hours.

Within VVER-TOI project a modern information design and construction environment, based on creation and usage of an information model of the power unit, is developed. Engineering data management system allows to accumulate all the collected project information and to transfer it without losses and data re-entry throughout all the stages of NPP lifecycle: from design up to decommissioning of the facility.
