The Republican Unitary Enterprise (RUP) Belenergostroy’s team have completed to install the ventilation stack on the reactor building of Belarusian NPP Unit 1. Rosatom State Corporation’s Engineering Division ASE acts as General Designer and General Contractor for the Belarusian NPP Construction.
A complex metal structure was mounted using a Liebherr truck crane with a lifting capacity of 500 tonne.
A ventilation stack forms part of the process ventilation system for the reactor buildings and special building and is intended to remove excessive heat and moisture, as well as to maintain the required operating conditions for equipment and servicing personnel during repair and refueling works or at the time of reactor outage. After passing the fine filtration plants, the air is fed into the stack cleaned and, therefore, does not pollute the atmosphere.
‘A 100-meter stack is one of the highest structures in the Unit’s start-up complex with only 171-meter evaporation cooling towers to be higher,’ points out Mr Vitaly Mediakov, First Deputy Director of Technology for the Belarusian NPP Construction, EC ASE, JSC. ‘Rated specifications of the ventilation stack are suitable for severe wind loads and seismic impact less than 6 points.’
The Belarusian NPP with two VVER-1200 reactors having a total capacity of 2400 MW is being constructed under the Russian design in Ostrovets (Republic of Belarus). To construct the first NPP in Belarus, it has been decided to rely on the Russian 3+ generation design that is fully compliant with the international standards and IAEA safety recommendations.
